Just got my shiny new 8800HD from fixmydata and my wife has already stolen the remote and the cat has sat on it so I know it's part of the family now.

1.  Does anyone have a PDF version of the manual as reading the printed one is incredibly hard for my old eyes?

2.  Since the EPG seems to work similarly to my TV in that I have to go through every channel to populate it, how does this work with recording ahead (days in the future) if I haven't turned it on the next day to populate the epg? Will it somehow figure it out?

3.  Does anyone know of any android application that functions similarly to smartepg? I really miss that functionality now. It could do everything.

There are some EPG issues that the 8800 probably has, similar to those for the 5300, and 2200 (see discussion here).

You can keep the EPG populated by using a P timer once a day on one service for each network.

Hi Ian, thanks for the reply. Only got the box yesterday so I have no idea how to do a P-Timer much less where to find it.

Currently playing with Kodi in the wife's new toy and managed to crash TF-Launcher (Don't tell her for God's sake!!) heheheheh.

Next to tackle the ftp server and then figure out where/how to find p-timers. Unless someone knows how to do them with this model?

The manual also mentions an ftp server built in and explicitly mentions where to find it but it doesn't exist.

That's something else to work out. (Now, if only I can get rid of this cold and think!!!)

Not sure about the ftp server, it is probably somewhere in the Android options. Cannot recall if you need to load a separate App - you had to do so on the 6211.

That's the thing, the manual says it is already there (has a page entry, pictures even) and where to find it but it isn't!

And I don't know how to load apps onto the android toppy and if it's safe. Kodi crashes (as an example) tf_launcher whenever I go to the guide so I am nervous about doing anything myself without some expert advice.

Hi there,
I bought one of these drives a month ago. Having a couple of issues with it. Is anyone able to help please?

1. usb drives don't seem to do anything when an external drive (hdd or memory stick) is inserted. The hdd drive powers up, however nothing else happens. Is there a menu I need to navigate to?

2. I use the standard EPG (not connected to the internet), however the series record does not work on any of the WIN network channels. It only gives me the option for daily/weekly etc recordings.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

This issue was quickly resolved by Fixmydata. The old Toppy accessed these files from the 'Recorded Program' menu, not the Media Centre.

After you plug in a usb hdd or key check the media centre menu to see if it is there

maximum drive size you can add with external drives are 1tb

to playback most file types you can also go to kodi

under the video menu select files and access your internal hard drive or external hard drive or networked hard drives from the menu.

2. I use the standard EPG (not connected to the internet), however the series record does not work on any of the WIN network channels. It only gives me the option for daily/weekly etc recordings.

Not sure on the win limitation does anyone have more information on this.

If you press the menu button
then select recording
then select program guide
it will take you to the epg guide used for series recording
Select the program you wish to record and hit the record button (black button with a red dot under the red f1 button)

The option for series record (record whole series) comes up there you select it and click ok and the rs will go onto that program
To double check the feature go back to the recording menu and select reservation.
Here you can click on the program with the ok button and it will show you the settings.

TF-Launcher crashes tend to happen when you switch from android to the pvr side the best way to avoid these is by pressing the white app button to switch from android back to the pvr.

Hi there, There seems to be an issue with my 8800 where there is a 'glitch' in the audio every 30-60 sec when watching recorded programs. Its minor, but noticeable, and with time I think would be really annoying.

Can you let me know what channels are affected

Does it happen only on the one channel or all channels ?

Does it happen with all recordings?

How do you have you box set up?

Is it attached to speakers?

Does this occur on live tv?

I have accepted the return if you could package it and return the item we will have a look at it for you.

Have been testing this unit you returned all weekend and have found no issues with the recording features.

I was unable to replicate the issues you claimed.

What other equipment were you using ?

Speakers ?

Tv?

What cabling were you using ?

Was this connected with HDMI or composite?

It could well be the broadcast itself was not recorded properly, it also be a signal issue but we have tested over 3 days now and have not found any issues with sound on recording.

Hi Fmd,

It’s unfortunate that you were unable to find the issues I have indicated (Isn't it always the way!) However, this does not mean that they do not exist. I have the recordings of the sound glitches, which unfortunately Ebay doesn't allow to be sent via their message system and no other method was provided by you to allow me to send them to you.

No other equipment was used other than the Topfield plugged in with the provided HDMI cable into an older LG LCD TV.

We are in direct line of site of the signal transmission tower and do not have issues with reception. None of the issues I’ve indicated have occurred with my current Topfield 7160 (other than the delayed refresh of the EPG, which was resolved via a firmware update a long time ago), and therefore I can only conclude that it or the unit or its compatibility with a standard TV. As mentioned in the Ebay response, I suspect that some of the issues relate to underdeveloped firmware. Either way the unit is not fit for purpose.

Regards,

GToppy

We have been unable to replicate these issues.
We have tested it for 3 days now and not one issue with sound on recording.

This suggests that it is either the signal and the broadcast recording or other equipment.

I have the recordings of the sound glitches, which unfortunately Ebay doesn't allow to be sent via their message system and no other method was provided by you to allow me to send them to you.

Ok how big are these files and can you do a report which includes the times and channels it was recorded from so we can investigate further for you.

No other equipment was used other than the Topfield plugged in with the provided HDMI cable into an older LG LCD TV.

There are huge differences between the 7160 and the 8800.

The 8800 is an android box for starters. So if you want to compare the features its more like 6211 than a 7160. That said that does not explain the recording issues that you are experiencing which we can not replicate.

Given that the main difference is the location of the signal if this was a faulty unit we should have experienced the same issues which we have not.

As mentioned in the Ebay response, I suspect that some of the issues relate to underdeveloped firmware. Either way the unit is not fit for purpose.

If you have changed your mind and wish to have a refund over this we have offered you a partial refund due to the condition of the item returned to us.

Also as this is a public forum you could always email me or private message me rather than put it on a public forum.

I have tried to assist you with this, if you have followed the returns policy and sent the item with postal insurance there wont be an issue getting a full refund.

But you have returned this item in a different condition to which it was sent to you outside the refund policy times and not in the same condition.

This is a matter for ebay, we have also given you the option to have the item returned to you at no cost or have offered you a partial refund.

Quite happy to look at the recordings with your claimed issues but as it stands at the moment we were unable to replicate the recording issue across various channels over 3 days.

The only conclusions we can make at this stage is that it is a signal issue, a broadcast recording issue with the program when it was recorded and thus the sound issues are in the broadcast recording itself.

We have not been able to replicate the sound issue, if it was present it would be doing the same thing regardless where it was located.

Please feel free to contact me in private to discuss this further

Greetings All

This forum is not intended as a mechanism for resolving disputes such as the one here. I would appreciate it if you would please resolve the matter using the procedures put in place by eBay.

Best wishes

Ian
