I had Kodi v16.1 working like a charm a couple of weeks ago. All of a sudden, my toppy tf-t6211 displays an empty Android Apps screen. All my app icons have disappeared and a circular animation appears continuously until I force a reboot

I performed a hd format, factory reset, reinstalled the latest firmware via USB. I managed to get the TV functions working but the same problem occurs. Still no Android app icons and the circling animation remains on screen until I force a shutdown.

Something fishy has happened to the Android launcher and there is no option to rebuild or restore the operating system.

There are other reports of this happening - I think on the old Topfield Forum. Some time back a backed up the important app and you can get them using this link. Just as well I backed them up as they have a habbit of disappearing.

Hi,

I posted about this on the topfield forum.

Help!

All of a sudden, I have an empty App bar.
and when i try to enter the Android Apps menu, it gets stuck on a lop trying to load. Only way out is to power off.
I'm not sure if it is related, but i've been using media centre to watch videos from a USB stick. I have also just been unplugging the usb stick without going into settings to unmount it.
So, I've done a reset, which didn't bring anything back to factory settings, as in Android Apps menu is still in a continuous loop to load. I did reinstall firmware. (1.0.0.2? but can't find the other firmware file)
and i get an E-25 when i try to follow the instructions for a rooted Toppy. I can't find anything on an error 25. It just won't find the file on the USB. No 'CHECK', no countdown.

I'm not sure i'm covered under warranty. I'm pretty sad if i've bricked this.

I was having trouble reinstalling and did make the mistake of not having my usb formatted to FAT 32.
i reformatted usb, and reinstall was fine.

I am still having same issues with the App drawer of the same description as posted by OP.

the only thing I can think of is a conflict with anything else plugged into the ports in the back of the unit. Mainly the USB or the LAN ports.

To get my apps back again, I have to  unplug my LAN cable, restart, then plug in my LAN port again to get internet, so that i can use my Android apps.
Previously, it started having the issue when I was plugging in a USB to view movies through Media Centre App.

and previously, I had a USB antenna dongle for WiFi but we are on Wireless internet at the moment and signal strength isn't strong enough so we have to plug in the LAN cable.

Even if the unit stays on overnight, I still need to unplug the LAN cable, restart the unit, and plug in the LAN for internet, to watch Netflix. Same deal, if I do switch the unit off.

So, i'm not sure if the LAN is the conflict or the USB ports.

either way, I'm going to keep my USB file loaded for a Firmware reset, and have all my most used Apps back up as apk files on another USB with Media Centre and Service Pack 2.

Does anyone else have any ideas what could be causing the issue??

No idea why it is happening. One can speculate but it is not likely to help. It could be that Topfield (Korea) has decided to no longer support the 6211, and this somehow results in the Android Apps being deleted - it may be than Android update server considers the 6211 to be an unsupported device.

There is a similar issue with the IceTV SKIPPA with Opera TV Apps. But you can still load and use apps despite it no longer being an approved device.

Woohoo! Thanks lexiii, unplugging the ethernet cable did the trick.

All my original app icons reappeared after turning on my toppy. Now I can enjoy streaming movies via Kodi.

If my apps disappear again, I'll just repeat the fix. The root cause must be a network bug which needs to be flushed by physically disconnecting from the internet.
