Hi All Toppy Fans,

The TF 7700 HD PVR has a habit of "doing its own thing" which isn't really so unique just to this model as our TRF-2400 does a few random things at times.

I have noticed that FTP file management requires quite a delay to delete a number of files.

At first it seemed as though the disk was in power save mode as initial access can take a towards a minute for the first directory view.

Deletion of files I have found requires care and patience; It can take many seconds before the TF 7700 HD PVR will respond that the action is complete.

Initially I deleted a number of files on the first attempt and the disk quickly corrupted, requiring a format after I exported some music I wanted to keep.

Web access seems reliable and faster to delete just one title at a time, however it is slow to have to recurse through all the pages to resume file management as it only displays about ten entries per page with just the .REC file shown for management.

Have you tried checking for problems with the HDD itself?
Off the top of my head, the HDD_info TAP reports some SMART stats that can sometimes indicate sick HDDs.  No operation under Ftp should be able to corrupt the filesystem.

It could have been corrupted before the FTP, and the FTP just made it noticeable....

The 7700 does not support TAPs. Not sure what hardware is runs, could be similar to the TF7100HDPVRt, in which case jda Explorer may be able to access it from a PC - it can be downloaded here

True could have been, however these TF 7700 HD PVR's that I have were sold on-line as new, although when opened they are German returns methinks; They are immaculate physically though on inspection.

So; The disks should be newish if a little dated.

No, but it is a good suggestion, I have only accessed one machine to break the factory seal so suspect the hardware to be working; Actually I am considering to install a 2.5" drive with a little more capacity to one as a trial, currently they are fitted 250GB which is acceptable as long as a format is applied after a fortnight or so of use.

Yes Ian; I reckon the hardware is fault free as all the TF 7700 HD PVR's that I have (4) are showing a similar behaviour.

I work around it by proceeding at the pace an FTP transaction reports; Select a range of files, Delete and wait for the directory view to restore.

It can be corrupted by moving to another selection of files soon after choosing Delete; If so the prior files show as present to FTP (and Web / file recording list) however; Any attempt to delete them reports, "File does not exist" so  a format simply fixes this.

The TF 7700 HD PVR can be rather latent to not only FTP, I have noticed that to recall "Time Shift" by pressing the Play button ► can take several seconds for it to respond on the first request for example; Hence, it seems more stable if working at "its pace".

Other firmware might improve this but I have a stable home theatre for now so may experiment one day.

Even so it is a handy machine at an attractive price for a platform we use all year long, especially Summer time as we can view services' three hours after local broadcast, or Queensland on Standard Time for example.

Thank you to all the replies; Most appreciated. [smile]
