Hi All

You can access my collection of Toppy firmware from here. It is not as complete as I would like, but the latest firmware is there for most Toppys.

Update 20-06-17: Late last week I uploaded my (incomplete) collection of user manuals.

Update 22-09-17: I have update the links on the oztoppy wiki firmware page.

The archive is currently missing firmware for some Toppys (TRF-7150 and older MPEG2 only HD Toppys).

which version should the 2400 be using these days. haven't updated in a while. I don't have any taps on my machine  but I remember a lot of talk in the past about certain older versions  being better than others

Thanks Ian. Really appreciate your efforts in supporting users of the Toppy. A great device poorly supported by the manufacturer and richly supported by people such as yourself.  Thanks again

The latest Jan 2016 is the one to use as it has fixes for the new HD channels which all the others don't. No bugs in it.

Yes, 2.16.00 is the best firmware for the 2400. The only thing I have noticed is that the ftp server is unreliable ... but that goes for all recent releases of the 2400 firmware.

Oh dear - I don't understand most of the tech jargon used - what is firmware?  And are you talking about user descriptive manuals for the 7260 Ian?
Regards, Losty

Firmware is the operating system used by the Toppy; it is a cut-down version of Linux. It is the equivalent of Windows on a PC. The user manuals are ones prepared by Topfield; some of the have a lot of errors (such as that for the TF-T6211).

Dazzla, I'm a bit confused, the latest firmware is either 2.16.00 or 1.16.00 which was relased in Jan 2016. The only more recent firmware is that for the TRF-2200.

My 7-year-old Olin PVR has become unreliable and, as eBay gave me a $100 voucher, I splurged it on a new Toppro TPR-5000. I understand this is a rebadged 500gb TRF-7160 (please correct me if I'm mistaken). There are 2 firmware options for this model: would I be correct in assuming the TRF-7160_33021_v1.16.00_29Jan2016.tfd is the correct one?

Thanks for doing this Ian (and if you want me to express my gratitude in a more concrete way I can send you a new and unused Topfield USB dongle if you let me know before I put it on eBay next week).

cheers

Ewan

Ewan

As I understand it the TPR-5000 has a 7160 main board. My 7160 has a TRF-7160 Rev 1.0 main board and has system ID 33021. Not sure what version main board the TPR-5000 has. I have managed to successfully load the firmware for a TF7100HDPVRt onto my TPR-5000. You can try editing the *.tfd file to change the system ID, or get firmware repackaged using FireBird tool. I do not know what main board my TPR-5000 has.

I will have a look and report back.

Thanks Ian

Received the unit yesterday and pretty happy with it, better tuners than the Olin, means I can do 2+1 now. And slicker interface. On the other hand the Olin can record to USB drives, which the Toppy does not appear to be capable of

The box has a "warranty void if removed" sticker on it, so can't have a look myself, but the info on the software is:

Loader Version v1.02
Device Version V1.0.1
Application Version TF-BCPF 1.01.00
Last update Jan 6 2011

Do you think there'd be any point updating the firmware, or is it best left alone? Thanks Ewan

Ewan, am I correct in assuming we are discussing the TPR-5000, in which case that is the latest firmware. As the distributor has gone into liquidation, there is no point in worrying about the warranty complications.

The 7100+ an 2400/2460 could at one time record to USB HDD, but that capability was removed. It is however possible to record to a NAS using a TAP. Unfortunately the 5000 does not support TAPs. What we need to do is to try loading the 7160 firmware. When I get a chance I will repackage the firmware from my 7160.
