I'm on the Insider editions of Windows 10 since November 2014 and MS keeps taking things away that worked fine.

On the latest release, they forcibly removed SMB1.0 which just happens to be the one needed to access the 8800hd.

Now Windows says it cannot access the toppy due to security flaw in smb1.0 and as that happens to be the one the toppy uses and win10 doesn't have it, it cannot access it.

Anyone have another way I can backup videos to another drive over the network?

Thanks so much ms, smb1.0 was only a problem when connected to the internet, not an internal network.

Yes Microsoft has removed support for smb1.0 over security concerns. One solution would be to install an Android ftp app - I used one on the TF-6211 which has similar firmware to the 8800. Another possibility would be to run an earlier version of Windows in a virtual machine - not sure if it would overcome the problem but it may.

Another possibility would be to use a Linux Live CD (using CD/DVD or USB stick) to access the 8800. But you may find the same problem with no support for the protocol the 8800 is using. Yest another possibility would be to install an Android app that includes support for a later version of smb.

PS This may explain why I could never get it to work on my 8800.

Ian, you sure get around. Was just reading some of your posts in Whirlpool.

As to installing an ftp app on the toppy, I have never seen where to install extra apps on a topfield, much less where to get them. May have to wait for fixmydata to get back to me about some updates he is doing when he has time. Then I'll ask if he could include one in the package.

I really need to find a 5 1/4 inch dock for my ssd boot drive from somewhere so that I could just take things out when I need them as some linux distributions are a pain to start on this rig.

As for the virtual idea..I have xp, 7 and 8 in virtualbox setups, maybe I can try that later. Copy them to the fake 3tb drive (if I can access it) and then boot to windows and copy that to the nas.

If the opthalmologist lets me see tomorrow😉😉

Just loaded up one of my favourite distros and attempted to mount the shared samba resource via the samba control panel and it failed to mount.

Oh well, that's for this little black duck for now.

Yes I do get around. Have to do something to keep the brain working while I enjoy my retirement.

Two ways to load Android Apps, one is to download the from the Google Play Store, the other is to install the *.apk file. I have done neither on the 8800 but have done both on the 6211.

Hi @Ian. The google play store doesn't seem to be present on this model. I'll see if fixmydata says it's a good idea as he setup this machine and knows if it works with his configuration.

@DeltaMikeCharlie.

Thanks for that. It is working again. Secure ot not, the toppy needs backing up now and then after my wife gets through filling it up!
