With the T2 and U4 you do not have any choice, the USB tuner is included.

You may wish to consider a T2 rather than U4 (assuming that absence of front display, 4K support and HDMI in are not important to you). It can record 8 programs over the 3 tuners rather than 10 programs over 4 tuners.

The only problem with the USB turners is that you have to disconnect them when doing a major firmware update (they cannot be done over the internet).

Long time ago a bought a homecast PVR and since then my wife constantly uses it.
So there must be plenty of stuff on FTA that is worthy of recording (considering the broader "tastes" of course!).
To me: FTA equals being bombarded by "Real Funeral Insurance" (no wonder our PVR's are dying!).

Or Homecast PVR still works a treat, but being so old I went looking for a backup PVR.
I suppose the scene has changed a lot these days with smart TV's and streaming services.
Hence PVR wise not so much available in retail shops these days.
Instead l bought a toppy from cash converters for a mere $35 (and liked the way it worked!).
Shortly after I was given 2 more toppies (a freeview dud and a failed master piece).

Looking for toppy forums I find many have gone the way of the Dodo and lots of dead links.
Just as well we have the Oztoppy forum.

Any PC with a cheap USB tuner can be setup to act as a simple PVR.

Sounds like you have the video output (resolution) selected to auto. Simply select it to your preferred output, and the problem will disappear.

My 2400 is being difficult lately. Let me clarify that - more difficult!! As you are, I am having trouble motivating myself to do anything about it. It is a bit like cleaning viruses off Windows used to be. Boring repetitive job that should not be necessary. I have spent the last three weeks transferring a client to a new laptop. What a pita!!!!! I have better things to do.

So I am seriously contemplating a move to Beyonwiz. Next time there is a special offer, I might jump.

No it wasn't. It was set to HDMI.
