Hi All,

I raised this at https://topfield.forumchitchat.com/post/using-your-australian-topfield-pvr-overseas-7162717?pid=1301825086#post1301825086 and IanL-S suggested it might be worth cross-posting here.

If I apply the TAP from that thread to set an AU unit to receive NZ channels, how do I revert to AU bandwidth and channel range?  Will a factory reset do it, or do I need another TAP to reverse the changes?

Thanks,

John.

Delta-Mike-Charlie is the expert. As it is TAP based, I would stop the TAP, shift it from the Auto-Start folder, I would then reset the service list. Next power down the Toppy. Out of abundant caution I would disconnect it from the power for 5 minutes, plug it back in, then power it up, do the service scan.

A factory reset followed by a service scan SHOULD do the trick.  The TAP only needed to be run once and should not have been placed in AutoStart.

If the factory reset does not fix it, please post to the forum and I will write a TAP to put things back the way they should be.

Thanks both,
Just making sure I can back out if needed subsequently.
Is the TAP development environment still available?  The links I have found all seem to be down - seemingly after it emerged that it was violating the GPL by not providing source.
Thanks again,
John.

Specific TAPs or TAPs in general?  Very few TAPs are provided with source code, although some are.

Hi DeltaMikeCharlie,
I think you once offered to make the "convert to NZ" code available, so if I had the development environment working and brushed up *considerably* on my C coding, it would ensure I had a path to revert even if the factory reset failed in the future and you weren't around for any reason.
Thanks by the way for all the work in creating the "convert" TAP.

John.

All,
An update with my results (crossposted to the other thread too).  I upgraded the firmware on my 7160 (33021) to the latest (29 Jan 2016) using the "abundant caution" method with lots of resets and power cycles.  System stats showed new version.

Installed firmware.dat and the transponder edit TAP and ran the TAP (Note that after running it immediately returns to the record menu).  Channel scan then successfully found NZ channels...which had video but no audio.

Perhaps the NZ MPEG4 now uses an even newer audio codec than the one provided in the 2016 update??

After factory reset (via menu): BW 7 MHz, no channels found in scan. So reset does appear to revert to the AU channel settings.

All,
A further update.  Sound works via composite output (shame about the picture quality), so the sound issue is unrelated to the NZ codecs or the tuning change.  Perhaps the topfield is just not correctly negotiating with the hdmi matrix switch.
