* Analyze packets, streams and services in various ways
* Retrieve detailed EPG infos of future events, save
* Retrieve transponder parameters of a network, save
* Extract TTX (teletext) pages, interactive display, save

* Extract / demux audio/video streams as PES / ES
* Auto-split TS streams at bookmarks

This sounds interesting. Has it been tested with Australian Toppy recordings? Other than the 2100 and 6211/8800 they do not use the file structure used by *.rec. They use *.mpg. I understand that it is essentially a standard MPEG2/4 transport stream file. JKit or FireBird can give a better explanation of the recording structure.

I will test and report back.

rectool supports DVB TS files (188- and 192-byte packet streams, even from BD disks).
This includes Topfield .rec files and any other DVB TS sources, but no .mpg containers.
And it is not a TAP, but a standalone command line PC program, running on Toppies, too.

Any questions will be answered here,
Acade

I did think it may be a PC program.

I do not know that I will ever need to use this, but it is good to know that it will be there when I do. Thanks for all your work Acade.

One use case, for example, is: Your HDD got corrupted, but luckily you had the
lost+found TAP installed or could restore your recordings via fsck or otherwise.

Now, you've got lots of files named by numbers only ("nnn... ") in the /lost+found
directory of your toppy (or any other location). But how to rename these recordings?

Easy: "rectool -R *" retrieves the required EPG infos from the files (5K and HD, even
without corresponding .inf file) and renames each recording to its {title}-{subtitle}.rec.

And: You can do this even via telnet on your toppy directly (rectool.mips included),
so you do not need to copy the files onto your PC (and back to your toppy again).

Just 1 example :-)

Have fun,
Acade
(using rectool also to watch TV, listen to the radio or view teletext, when working on the PC)
